“Maybe now you’ll start giving out awards at the department sharp-shooting contests.”

  Michaels glanced at the body hanging out of the house before he turned back to Frank.

  “What an idiot. He didn’t even ask you if you were alone.”

  “His problem was that he didn’t think I’d learned from my mistakes.”

  “Well I’m glad you called me. Wish I could have been here a little sooner, but you kept him talking long enough.”

  “He liked to talk,” Frank said. “Another problem of his.”

  Thirty-Five

  Katie sat on the porch reading a book. Frank carried the tray of lemonade out to her. She looked up when he appeared and smiled at him.

  “You know I could find a worse husband,” she said. “You’re sexy, kind and you make lemonade.

  Frank set the tray on the little glass table and Katie grabbed a glass.

  “So when are we going to make it official.”

  “Still too early, don’t you think?”

  Katie smiled. “I don’t know. You’re not getting any younger are you.”

  They both laughed at that and sipped their lemonade.

  It was still a few hours before the sun was due to set, but Frank looked at it anyway. No reason to wait until something was almost gone before you appreciated it.
